Slumdog Academy Award Winner

Wait a second... haven't we seen this before?

People in the slums of Mumbai gathered to watch the most glamorous ceremony of the year by the Academy and the victory of the small film that captured audiences all over the world. I won't cover the entire award show, but I just want to celebrate Slumdog Millionaire.

I told you that Slumdog Millionaire was the clear winner this year, it grabbed 8 Oscars® and rightfully so. And in times of financial crisis and hightened attention to people who have less, the more charm and popularity this picture has. But to me, none of that is relevant, this was the one I've been waiting for since forever. Refreshing and gripping are adjectives I look for in a favourite movie.

It won Best Picture of course, but also
Best Achievement in Cinematography
Best Achievement in Directing
Best Achievement in Editing
Best Achievement in Sound
Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score
Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song
Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published

Sharky

You better have a strong stomach for this...

Sharky is a design by Argentinian Pablo Matteoda: "INFUSION means to extract certain properties from an soluble ingredient such as tea leaves , herbs or fruit by soaking in liquid (water) until it gets saturated. So we can say that a infuser is the in charged of make this happen. This is a ludic point of view about the color given off from the phenomenon, wich makes more interesting the waiting of the whole process."

Marlboro baby

Surely you're aware of the cowboy... this is just redonkulous.

"Yes, you never need to feel over-smoked.... That's the Miracle of Marlboro!" Wow.

GQ: Penn Badgley

According to GQ mag the essential pieces of sartorial Americana. Worn by Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley. Don't let it cramp your personal style though, if you've got any.

Gossip Girl is a teen/adolescent show about astronomical rich people on the Upper East Side of NYC. It's... how to say this... appealing for lovers of beautiful people, fashion and decadence. As the show's voice-over says best: "Gossip Girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite." And if you've ever seen The O.C. you should know it's from the same creator. But we aren't talking about this redonkulous show, it's about the threads featured by Gentlemen's Quarterly. Photographs are of course by Terry Richardson.

Jill Greenberg

So, J.J. Abrams Star Trek is coming this year. I'm actually looking forward to this. It's the first time though that I am modestly intrigued by this revived franchise, so technically I can't be called a Trekkie (thank God).
It was J.J. and the pitch perfect casting that caught my attention, but something else struck me. It was a style I knew and immediately recognized from a magazine cover: Greenberg's manipulative portraits.

If you don't know her yet, go check the (in)famous End Times series featuring toddlers that caused controversy in 2006. It's striking and powerful.

Something else in her body of work was extremely controversial as well... the McCain series, but I encourage you to find out the story yourself!

The Governator.

The Fresh Prince/
true movie star with larger than life personality/
best-paid thespian frequently cast to save the world.

The Daily Show's Jon Stewart. (See my theme?)

Mac vs. PC

Let's settle this ONCE AND FOR ALL!!! :') I'm kidding, digital compositor Nick Greenlee made a short inspired by Transformers.

"The short film not only gives us a real glimpse into the real world of home computers, but also attempts to settle the ultimate debate: what is better - Mac or PC. Ignore the questionable acting, the visual effects make this worth watching. Utilizing everything from motion capture animation and HDRI, to massive amounts of tacking and 3D compositing (which can be seen in almost every shot), this short won Best Compositing at Artimation 2008."
