Lord of War (2-disc SE steelbook)

Just bought a great steelbook by DFW of a very cool satire about weapons trade with Nicolas Cage, the ever classy Bridget Moynahan and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto. The original release date of this dvd was March the 14th 2006, exactly two years ago. So it's cheaper now. ^^ The movie pretty humorous, but it's quite dramatic as well. But Lord of War is most of all just heckling politics.

This edition has one great disadvantage of the film, despite it's anamorph set on the DVD, the format is a 1.78:1. This of course deviates from the original size that's been seen in theatres when a 2.35:1 ratio was held.

Why is that bad? Well, the original composition is not being respected and we can't actually see what's being cut from it. It is very important to respect the intended aspect ratio, because a director frames a shot in a certain way very intently... While now it has been "ruined".

But it's also about the packaging: the Steelbook. Yep, I predicted that within the period of the release till now and even later a whole mess of distributors will have their own variety of metal casings and steelbooks.
