How I Met Your Mother

One awesome show you should definitely check is HIMYM. It's undoubtedly the hottest post-Friends sitcom to watch. It feels very topical, you can almost pinpoint an actual period through little commonalities like holidays, music, movies, celebrities... CBS is already airing its 4th season, so catch up soon! It's a mission possible, because one episode only takes 20 minutes.

The show's created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. HIMYM stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel (Apatow movies), Alyson Hannigan (Buffy), Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris (Dougie Howser and the Harold & Kumar films).

In my opinion it's based on the blueprint of Friends though:
- It's situated in NY
- It's about friends hanging out in an appartment
- There's a womanizer, there's a married couple, a dream girl, etc.
- Hanging out in a bar (not at a coffee place, but there's a funny episode of it)
- Young educated, metropolitan people in their late twenties/early thirties
- About having relationships, which isn't a real argument, but -whatever- bear with me

So there are lot of things that seem familiar. BUT it has a whole other edge to it, it's told in flashback by... yes, America's favourite dad: Danny Tanner aka the alter ego of a much much more vulgar Bob Saget. It's a story told by an older version of the main character, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), to his two children of how he met their mother.

The shows has a lot to offer, one of those things is that the makers keep you guessing of who the mother might be. Ted keeps having a lot of squeezes and girlfriends in his search of the One. But my guess -after 4 seasons- remains my first instinctive choice, even though there are no real foolproof evidences.

The theme song is Hey Beautiful by The Solids. An awesome music video compiled with clips from the first two seasons.

I strongly recommend HIMYM, it has become one of my all-time favourite shows. The sitcom actually uses cross media too, so be sure to discover that for yourself as well. Quickly check it out one way or another so you can get the inside jokes, enjoy Barney Stinson's (NPH) antics and his Bro Code quotations, and find out what the awesome quote "It's gonna be legend-... wait for it... and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is DAIRY!" comes from!

It's on CBS and check your local listings for a broadcast. Now suit up!

An a capella John Williams tribute

Some dude called Corey Vidal brought us this wonderful musical treat. While he didn't really sing it, it's still pretty cool. Moosebutter is the comedic barbershop quartet responsible for the vocals. Vidal just lip-syncs.

John Williams is the man behind all the scores for Steven Spielberg (save Duel and The Color Purple), Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter... JUST to name a FEW. A living legend.

Multi-Academy Award® winning composer and same for one of the greatest directors of all time.

The Obamamania Aftermath

"In modern America, anyone who attempts to write satirically about the events of the day finds it difficult to concoct a situation so bizarre that it may not actually come to pass while his article is still on the presses."
- Calvin Trillin

"It is difficult not to write satire"
- Juvenal

"All the satires of the stage should be viewed without discomfort. They are public mirrors, where we are never to admit that we see ourselves; one admits to a fault when one is scandalized by its censure."
- Molière

"Satire must not be a kind of superfluous ill will, but ill will from a higher point of view. Ridiculous man, divine God. Or else, hatred against the bogged-down vileness of average man as against the possible heights that humanity might attain."
- Paul Klee

I see the humour in it, but as the aura of Obama is larger than life, so are the issues he and his administration are facing. Surely on the short term he'll disappoint, while cleaning the frat boy's mess... HOPEfully on the long term he'll or rather we'll achieve everything he has promised in his beautiful rhetoric. Although that's quite utopian. But when was the last time a politician really inspired people unto the verge of adoration...? Surely I step aside for that matter, but if that means people standing up and taking action, taking responsibility and really pushing for CHANGE and PROGRESS, I'll run with it for a while.

Congratulations, Mr. President... President-elect Obama

Hallelujah, America! The 44th President of the United States of America will be the first African American President. I can't help but think how great this victory is... for black people, for minorities, for youngsters and all who crave CHANGE.

TEAR IT UP! :')

You've seen and you know about these posters. But just to review these and remind us of the importance of this day, I'll post them. Shepard Fairey is the wonderful artist who made these posters, they're sold out of course, but if you find them inspiring as I do you'll try to hunt some of them down. :) Sure they're political propaganda... but the good kind, right? Right?

JakeBox

I have a soft spot for packaging design. Whether it's the latest dvd or cd digipack or just a simple, clever print on a recyclable paper bag. Sometimes something a little more complicated just tickles my fancy... like the JakeBox.

Smart huh?

Nothing rocks like the Rolling Stones, right? That's Rolled Gold.

Shutter Shades

Approximately one year ago, you might have noticed that hip hop superstar Kanye West was wearing an odd pair of glasses... a frame actually. But it was cool, right? The first exposure of these shades was in his video of Stronger, a single on a sample of Daft Punk, which he really flaunted.

It became so recognizable, that he used it in his album cover designs...

They're called Shutter Shades... and I have pair, just in case you feel like party hardy like a genuine hipster. I won't really wear it a lot though, because it has already become a hype. And there's no bigger dealbreaker than a fad. Everyone wants to be hip or cool and by that they just become uncool, but you knew that already. <_<

This is the snow white Classic, it's so striking. I have the one below, a less white version, because of the phosphoric layer. A glow in the dark version. ^_^

It's so iconic now that all kinds of designs and variations have jumped in on it. Like this T-shirt, tell me you don't want one, you silly hipster.
